Sacred Music Resources

You have good taste! This is also my favorite page. Here you will find sacred music resources for the Catholic liturgy and liturgical living. It is our goal to keep all these resources free, so if you find these resources beneficial, please consider hitting that conveniently located and prominent but modestly sized donate button below.

Also... please be patient as this page is updated. It takes a lot of time to finalize and upload and link pdf files to the text on this page.

Lyric Free Hymn and Chant Accompaniments

Accompanists often only need the notes of a hymn or chant in order to accompany a choir or cantor. This is especially true when a hymn tune is commonly coupled with multiple hymn texts. The following sheet music collection simplifies this for accompanists, providing musical selections only as "titled hymn tune" rather than multiple pages of the same music with different lyrics. These also very conveniently provide the names of common hymn titles, so the accompanist may be reminded of when a particular tune is being recycled with another hymn text. In short, this means fewer pages of music in your accompaniment binder and easier music reading.

Simplified Hymn and Chant Accompaniments

This project aims to provide high-quality accompaniments for budding accompanists who are willing to accompany at Mass but are still at an intermediate skill level. These simplified versions hope to bridge the gap between professionals and advanced students. The re-harmonizations of these hymn tunes aim to emulate the chord progressions of common existing ones. Still, great care should be used if they are to be used to accompany anything other than a unison melody, as the non-soprano voices may not fit with these versions.

SA / TB Hymns

When singing hymns in parts, it is often difficult for anyone except the sopranos to follow along with the musical part of any given new hymn as well as the text at the same time. This collection of hymns provides them as either SA or TB parts, with each voice on its own staff, making it easier for everyone to see their exact part and the lyrics at the same time.

Gregorian (and other) Chants

Easy access to Gregorian chant (and other non-Gregorian chants used in the Catholic liturgy) is key to reviving it to a standard practice and therefore giving it "pride of place" as the Second Vatican Council says it should have. This section (along with the following audio and video sections) provides a curated collection of beautiful printable music from our chant heritage, along with suggestions on when to sing them.

Hymn and Chant Practice Audio

Need to hear your part of a hymn louder than the other voices, but still hear the others to practice your part effectively? Look (and hear) no further! These organ audio tracks will do the trick. Please only use these for practice and rehearsal purposes and do not use them as accompaniment during mass in leiu of an organist. That's a big no-no!

Gregorian Chant Videos

Neume (old chant square and diamond notes) notation can be a bit mystifying at first. These videos aim to demystify chant notation and rhythm by highlighting the notes (neumes) in a lovely shade of blue as the chanter sings through them. These videos will hopefully both help ease the learning of more complex Gregorian chants and also demonstrate how chant rhythm and pitch work.

Easy Motets

Sometimes, in the liturgy, a full-length hymn (after singing the propers, of course) is not the best thing to sing. These motets are curated and tested by an active amateur schola choir for ease of singing. They are also chosen for their suitability when singing soprano or soprano/alto only with accompaniment (in the all-too-frequent absence of male singers).
